Labella DeMorney (77096)

The restless spirits are haunting again! Have a look at Labella DeMorney, Banshee (77096), my second mini from the Bones “Haunts” Set from Kickstarter. Looks that I can finish all five translucent plastic bones from the Haunts Set before Halloween.

I elaborated a bit on different approaches to painting the translucent bones in my last post. I want to have some more contrast on the minis, without completely sacrificing the “glow” of the figures. So primarily it’s washing and highlighting for me.

Basing and Priming

After a soapy bath, I glued Ms. DeMorney on a 30mm round base. A standard 25mm base didn’t fit. As a standard procedere, I glued fine and coarse sand on the base and primed the base with Vallejo Black Primer.

Painting

The last time, a basecoat of brush-on Vallejo Satin Varnish did work out pretty well, so I also applied it on this miniature and let it dry for a couple of hours. Afterwards, I washed the model with Vallejo Model Color (MC) Dark Green Ink.

Next, I started highlighting the “skin” (i.e. the arms, legs and face) of the banshee with MC “Lime Green”. I then  drybrushed with the same color on the robes, and finally with MC “Green Grey” at the edges of the model. I also did the usual routine on the base to get an desaturated, earthy ground for the banshee.

Finishing Touches

Next, I sealed the model with Army Painter Anti-Shine Varnish and put some grass and moss pieces on the base. As it worked nicely with the base of the zombies, I glued bits of Iceland moss on the base and basecoated it with dark brown (MC “Chocolate Brown”) and did a little highlighting (MC “Dark Sand”).
