Malek the Necromancer (77172)

Beware of spoilers! The final confrontation of the Tyranny of Dragons campaign waits at the Well of Dragons, a citadel and a graveyard of dragons. A death knight named Naergoth Bladelord and lich rule there for the Cult of the Dragon. I already had a lich and a death knight, but I wanted another undead knight with the purple colors of the cult. Malek the Necromancer from the Reaper Bones Kickerstarter was perfect!

D&D Repaint: Aasimar Fighter

Time for another repaint! This figure of an Aasimar fighter in full armor was a very boring and dark looking miniature in my collection of old D&D minis. The armor reminded me of my Elder Scrolls Online character, which I played a lot a while back. So I decided to try to give the figure the same color tones as my video game character and to paint over the factory paint job.

D&D Repaint: Halforc-Executioner and Royal Guard

You can always use more generic bad guy minions. The Royal Guard from the Underdark set of old D&D miniatures line is a general humanoid in full plate armor and a spear. The halforc executioner from the same set is a hooded brute with a bardiche. I repainted both to add them to the Dragon Cultists’ army for the final encounter at the Well of Dragons.

Pathfinder Red Dragon (89001) as Lennithon the Blue Dragon

In the very first session of the Tyranny of Dragons campaign, players of the adventure face an immense threat: An adult blue dragon attacking a village. I didn’t have a miniature then, but both my players and the dragon escaped. Before the finale of the campaign, I knew they had to face the blue dragon Lennithon again. And this time, I had this fantastic red dragon miniature from Reaper that would become my Lennithon.

Burrowing Horror (77372)

And yet another miniature that has nothing to do with my Tyranny of Dragons campaign. I have to take some more pictures of the final baddies before posting them, so I present to you something completely different in the meantime: Reaper’s Burrowing Horror is their version of the D&D classic “land shark” or “bulette”. It was part of the Reaper Bones Kickstarter and only took one evening to paint.

Blacksmith (77142)

This miniature of a blacksmith from the Reaper Bones Kickstarter has nothing to do with my Tyranny of Dragons campaign. I started it several years ago and paused for years after painting the skin. Some time ago, I pulled it back from my shelf of shame and decided to finish it. I don’t think I’ll soon need a blacksmith NPC as a miniature, but hey – at least it is finished now.

D&D Repaint: Red Wizard as Rath Modar

As they were approaching the later episodes of the Tyranny of Dragon campaign, my players faced the mighty Red Wizard Rath Modar. The new D&D miniatures line from WizKids has a Human Red Wizard (#019) in their “Tyranny of Dragons” set. I did not really like the factory paint job, so I repainted him.

Blightfang, the Green Dragon (77323)

Time for another dragon! Reaper’s Blightfang is a huge green dragon that I used for my Tyranny of Dragons campaign to depict the Chuth, the Emerald Assassin in the Misty Forest on the Sword Coast. He is directly associated with Neronvain the Green which I posted yesterday. It took me more time creating the forest base than painting the dragon 😉

Anirion (77068) as Neronvain the Green

Let’s get back to important NPCs in the Tyranny of Dragons campaign. Spoilers, obviously. Neronvain the Green Wyrmspeaker is the head of the green sect within the Cult of the Dragon. His base of operations is deep within a forest. It is also the lair of his close ally, the green dragon Chuth. I needed a spellcaster miniature for this NPC, and Anirion from the Reaper Bones Kickstarter was a perfect match.
